Why is there a section in the database of WSN links called Zip Codes?
I ask because what I really need is a way for people to be able to search listings in wsn links by Zip Code, well UK Post Code actually, and be able to see listings within 5 10 or 15 miles if the post code searched for.
Is this possible? What would it take? How much would you charge me Paul to custom build this?
In the 4.1 series, only WSN Classifieds searches by zip code. In 4.2 that will be available as a switch in WSN Links as well. With both, however, my database only has United States data. In order to search UK listings I'd need access to a freely licensed (BSD/MIT, public domain, maybe LGPL) database which provides the latitude and longitude of UK postal codes (perferably town names too, though those aren't used for anything at the moment).
If you can only find commercially licensed databases, then it'd have to be a special project for you personally to adapt the format after you buy it. Estimate 2-4 hours, $100-$200.
Can I send you a copy of the database files I have so that you can see if they are what you need. I would be willing to pay you $250 as soon as you like if you are willing to set this up for me, including explaining to me how to set up the search form and results template to work with the data.
Yes, email it to me (wsn at this domain) and I'll have a look. A flat price of $250 to cover everything is fine.
I'm hoping to have a 4.2 alpha available soon (working out upgrade bugs now), it'll turn on the search form automatically when you turn on the switch. Demo: http://www.temp.wsnforum.com/classifiedsuserdemo/
and results template
Do you have in mind displaying the distance in the results template? That's something I'm not doing, but I should be able to add it (within the $250).
I'll be in touch about this very shortly Paul as I have no means of paying you. The kind people at PayPal have suspended my account suspicious of the amount of money I am putting through.
You do well online and PayPal ruin it for you. I have never in my life done anything dodgy online and they have done this.
Can you do a Google checkout payment option in WSN links please, it would be so good.
Considering all the fraud I've been getting lately -- about a thousand dollars worth of fraudulent purchases of the scripts via paypal in the last couple months -- I guess they're suspicious of everyone except the actual crooks. Or maybe they suspect you for having paid me, just because everybody else who buys from me is using a stolen credit card? Oh well, it can't be easy for them as such a high profile target. I've gone back to requiring buyers to have an account in the hope that that'll help a little, though some of the fraud was from accounts anyway. At any rate, have you called them? The only time I've made purchases they deemed suspicious, they simply gave me a phone call and asked me to confirm the purchases.
There's always 2checkout. Getting google checkout set up will take weeks at best.
