I get this message if I try and put up a new listing, and it will not allow me to post:

You've already posted this thread. Do not attempt to cross-post.

its bizzare - I don't understand why I'm getting this all of a sudden. Obviously I have not posted anything similar - the message comes up even if I enter some rubbish just as a test....

it happens on WSN Links 3.3.17 (and was happening on 3.3.6 before that as well - I upgraded to see if that would fix it). Its a version whose templates I've slightly modified to act as a classifieds script, but it was all working fine until now...

what could be going on?

You have crossposting prevention enabled at settings -> links. Will see what happens when I use it... no message as admin, will check as user.

well, cross-posting is supposed to prevent the posting of duplicate content. The effect I'm seeing is that it simply stops me posting anything!! For example, I turned it off (cross-posting) and I was able to create a test entry (with random text in the title and desc fields). I then turned it back on and I couldn't post - I just tried some random text and immediately got the message...

!?

As stated, it works perfectly -- I cannot manage to get any non-duplicate content rejected and you've given me no procedure that reproduces.

if you use something like www.test.com and then even if its been previously deleted, it gives the cross-posting message when you submit that link again... i changed the url completely and it was ok

I am now on 3.4.1 and it still doesnt work. In fact I can't see any reason why. I created a new link using words I'd never used before.... and it still threw me out upon submitting it, saying:

The obscure matter of re-submitting something with the exact same url as a link previously deleted is fixed, and that was the only problem with the cross posting prevention option.
