The site is very broken, lots of 403 and 404 errors all over.

I just wanted to try and download the new revisions, same with the wsnforum site..

The "resources" and "support" links up top give forbidden errors.

Looks like everything on the webmastersite.net is missing, except for the forums
https://www.webmastersite.net/forums/ directory. Hopefully WSN can get the manual back online soon, or the forums will get pretty busy.

I have the latest version 3.3.7, wish there was a way I could help.

Will you please let us know when we can download upgrades? Looks like this problem has been going on for a month or so with no answers. Clients are getting very upset.

I'm more ticked off at my web host for having this problem and not responding to me about it than any of you are, but pretending that a couple of days (actually more like 40 hours until it was functional again, if ugly in spots) is "a month or so" doesn't help and I've been a bit more interested in recreating the site than talking about it.

As for the problem, I don't have a clue what it was since my web host isn't responding to inquiry. May reoccour I suppose. Will be looking around at possible new hosts.

Note that the archives are lost, I don't have copies of the post-2.3 or so older version of WSN Links so only the lastest version will be available now. Not that this should affect many people, just a few seem to like to upgrade from say 3.10 to 3.16 to avoid template changes.

Paul,
Sorry to hear. If you looking for a new host pm me. I just switched over and they transferred everything over plus some. Very good support. Again sorry to hear.Hate when stuff like that happens that's why I have a back up server for just in case.

Let me revise what I'm complaining about with my host. Their deactivating things due to a spam exploit in formemail.php was reasonable (though I wish they could deactivate just the file), it's only their taking forever to inform me that's really annoying.

I'd found spenix to have very good and quick support in the past, but obviously my experience has changed. I'll probably stick with it for now until I have the money to move a bunch of my sites to a dedicated server though.

Older versions should be back available in a day or two.

Also note that I'm tightening up contactform.php's security for 3.3.8, even though it doesn't seem to have been the exploited target in this case (given that my WSN Links and WSN Forum installs on this domain weren't deactivated) and ought to be safe when the security image is on.

I've found the hsphere server control panel much better than the cpanel hosting services. Much more organized control and plus the ability to manage multiple domains from one account makes it a winner in my books!

Best host I've used so far: www.successfulhosting.com
with very fast tech support as well.

The million dollar question -- was the deactivation a result of an exploit in any of your retail/pro scripts?

If so, I for one want to know now so I can deal with it.

I seriously don't want to get my IPs or domains tainted since I also host my own mail and DNS server on these IP.

BTW: Since there is some probability of vermin discovering new ways to exploit your scripts from these forums it might make sense to at least prohibit reading the bug forums (and have one for each script area) by guests.

Sorry to hear about your probs Paul - very frustrating and maddening. I am more than happy to hear you are tightening securityy - you never can be too safe unfortunately.

I have now started receiving spam on the contact form through one of my sites - I presume they are very sad people who sit and manually fill in the formdisapproval, including the security code. I am pretty sure the form hasn't been compromised

depends on the version. There was some problems back a version or two where the security code (wrong or lack of) wasn't stopping the contact admin from working.

If you use WSN FormEmail -- which is a free script which hasn't been updated since 2003 and which I've now taken offline -- delete it now. I may release a safer version in the future, but there are lots of form-to-email scripts you can use.

I believe there were several versions of WSN Links that bundled formemail.php, so you should probably check that... though recent versions don't have it and really old versions wouldn't have it, you may have the file left over if you passed through one of the versions that had it.

Reports from someone via email make me wonder if there might be a script out there which is reading the security image automatically, though it's hard to tell remotely. I've made it hopefully more difficult for a bot to analyize now.
