I left it in 4.0.7 only for people who had it set to no, making it invisible to people who had it yes, theoretically as a way of phasing it out but really it doesn't make a lot of sense. I'm removing it entirely now, since there's no need for the setting when you can specify whatever format of link rewriting you want in the box. It was originally a distinct option because the name rewriting had too many problems at the time to be the default, whereas now it should automatically strip out special characters.

Oh, ok - trust me to play around with something I shouldn't <G> If there is something I am not sure I understand I try it out to see what it does!
So - how do I change it back? Since changing it I get a 404 error when trying to view link details, and the option to change it is not there...
Use category names in URL: yes Replace spaces in category names with _ Name to use for threads: thread Format for link details rewriting: {LINKTITLE}-{LINKID}.html Rewrite member list, profiles and help items? no Use only lowercase? yes
I'm having this same problem, and when I went to enter that format that you mentioned Paul, it says that I need to update my htaccess file in order for it to work. Could you post the exact syntax that should be added to that file?

Turned URL rewriting on with {LINKTITLE}-{LINKID}.html for format - worked great
Then said yes to "Use link names in link details URL" - now I can't view details. Went back to turn it back to no and the option is not there.

Write links/detail/{LINKID} if that's the format you prefer.

CHMOD .htaccess to 666 and submit the SEO page to let it do the changes.
