I have my "Max subforums to show on main page:" set to 7. On 5 of the 7 main categories it displays the first 7 subcategories alphabetically, but of the other two, one gives the description and then the "More..." link, and the other just gives the description (no "More..." link). Both of these do have subcategories and were displaying fine in 3.3.1. I believe this started after I upgraded to 3.3.7 and ran "regenerate your category selector and sitemap" and "regenerate totals".
I tried re-running both and it didn't fix it...any suggestions would be appreciated.
I upgraded to 3.3.8 and now I have a very similar problem with the <!-- BEGIN SUBSUB --> on the "Show Links In Category" template.
In the admin I looked through every page and tried setting the number of subcategories to anything but 0, regenerated everything, but all I get is a "more..." link.
what OS are you using? I've never seen those icons before...
Anyway, I don't really know what I did to make the subcats disappear. I remember that on the "categories" page I set the subcats to be shown on the main page to '0' and regenerated cats. But then the 'more...' link was still showing, which I didn't want, so I just removed the subcats variables from the main page. However since then the subcats on the other pages have disappeared at the same time and never came back. Although that particular setting shouldn't even affect those subcats... (here's the upcoming, not completely finished version: host.miss-newyork.net/~elit...?action=displaycat&catid=1)

Well if you set that to 0 it won't show of course. It may say "main page" but it applies to any subcategory listing, displaylinks.tpl uses the same thing.
yes, that's what I thought. So I set it back to 15, regenerated everything, but it doesn't change anything. It's still only showing that 'more...' link, no categories.
Now that I think about it, it's even weirder that the 'more...' link is only showing when there are actually more than 15 subcats. When there are less than 15 subcats there's nothing at all...
I checked the template, and just in case copied the original template from the download to make sure I didn't mess up the code, but still nothing...
I just had to change the name of 2 of my subcategories, so I did and went to regenerate categories and got a page with several lines of this:
Warning: mysql_num_rows(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL result resource in /home/totalspo/public_html/classes/database.php on line 108
It then said that the categories had been updated. I looked at my main page and I'm back to the same problem I originally posted about - one of my categories has "More..." with no subcategories listed, and another doesn't list the "More..." *or* the subcategories. I tried regenerating the categories again and nothing changed...
I'm on 3.3.6, I had originally set the Max subforums as 0, but now I wanted to see subcats so I set it to 4, and regenerated all cats, but, like the others above, it doesn't show me anything apart from the 'More...' link..!!

Number of rows is for Out of memory. Restart daemon and try again (needed 1048568 bytes)
Load time so far: 7.35 seconds. Performing query: UPDATE elite_categories SET subcatshtml='' WHERE id=104;
Out of memory. Restart daemon and try again (needed 1048568 bytes)
Load time so far: 7.36 seconds. Performing query: SELECT id,name,parent FROM elite_categories WHERE id=11 ;
I get no errors when regenerating only 10 categories, which is a pain when you have more than 1.000. And even without errors the subcats won't come back.

I had to regenerate the categories themselves to make it work.

Hey, it worked. I swear I did that before and it didn't work.
Thanks Jenny.

That's in the upgrade instructions for upgrading from 3.2x or below. I'm pretty sure the change was in 3.3.0, odd you say you were using 3.3.1.

Once I regenerate it goes back to showing for me. I get no errors. Of course I can't comment on any mysql warnings when you don't provide the debug.

How do we do that?
