I have an interesting problem....when I go to my main category page, all of my top-level categories are listed, but there are also sub-cats listed in the listing as though they are top-level cats.
For example, Wedding Favors (a top-level cat) is listed as are Wedding Favors in California (a sub-cat of Wedding Favors) and so on. When I click on the edit button for these sub-cats they are shown as being child categories of Cat 17, which is Wedding Favors, so the idea that I accidentally made these sub-cats top-levels isn't the case.
It's only this cat/sub-cat...otherwise, all of my other sub-cats are inside their respective top-levels.
Any idea why this got so screwy?
Thanks!
Jen
p.s. Example of what I'm talking about:
All listed as top-level on the main page:
Wedding Favors (Cat 17,level 0) Wedding Favors in California (child of #17) Wedding Favors in Minnesota (child of #17) etc...
As you can see, there are main categories and sub-categories for a main category showing up on this main page even though in the admin section the sub-cats are not listed as top-level categories.
Even though some of these sub-cats are clearly marked as sub-cats of top-level category 17, they are showing up as though they are top-level cats themselves.
When you click on one of these "Wedding Favors in ..." categories you see that apparently they've been subcats of other top level categories before, like "Arkansas Wedding Resources", which don't exist anymore. Maybe you aliased them into categories which later got deleted or something? I would try to make sure that none of these subcats have aliases in other categories and then regenerate everything.
www.helpmywedding.com/direc.../Wedding_Favors_in_Georgia shows on the front page and in the navigation as being in Georgia Wedding Resources, yet the front page doesn't show there actually being a top level cat named that and the category selector lists is under Wedding Favors instead. Where/how did you create the categories that have all the names along the lines of State Wedding Resources, and what might you be doing that's making those invisible? Maybe it's a deleted category or something?
Those categories, like Georgia Wedding Resources and the like have been deleted. Of course, I assumed that everything inside would be deleted as well but for some reason the wedding favors are the one persistent category that will not delete properly.
I created most of the categories and sub-categories using the method for adding bulk categories where you go to the category you want, and create subs using this format: category1[,]category2[,] etc....
I've deleted alises, regenerated everything....you name it. Short of deleting each of these categories one by one and starting all over, I'm not sure what to do.
Also a bit of background, I was having trouble even editing categories because I had so many. I decided to forego using 50 different categories titled Minnesota Wedding Resources, Illinois Wedding Resources etc and aliasing all of the individual sub-cats like Wedding Favors in Minnesota and Wedding Musicians in Illinois because it seemed to be running very slow or not at all with that many categories. I believe I had about 900+ subcats altogether.
I'm not sure what to make of this, but not being able to get to the category list to just delete them en masse is driving me crazy!

I don't think I've ever seen anything of that sort happen, but I'm not sure I understand what you mean anyhow, a screenshot might clarify.
