Each time a listing is added the site popularity bar appears with the listing as it is suppose to. However, in this one recent instance, rather than it appearing instead a link appeared that says "Google Pagerank Tool".
I can't see how this would have been possible, but if someone could take a glance at the URL to see what I mean and suggest a solution I would greatly apprecaite it.
I would tend to agree, but yet MSN links places that information on the page, and it is not something that someone submitting a site can make happen. So why/how would MSN Links depart from its code and post this instead?????
I'm not sure you follow. I'm not saying anything about or against the page rank tool. My question is so simple I can't figure out why nobody seems to under stand it.
Whenever I add a new listing it always appears with the site popularity bar, indicating how popular/important the site is. It always does that. But, in this one instance, on the URL within my first post, next to the site "Linens 4 You Storefront" it did not appear this time. Instead, a link appeared that reads "Google Pagerank Tool".
All I am asking is: 1) What made that happen rather than the popularity bar appearing for which the code is directly responsible? 2) How do I fix it so that the bar appears.
What does that have to do with suggesting a better page rank tool?
The site popularity bar is really a tool that shows google's page rank for the URL. The website www.huebit.ws provides a free tool that allows you to show the Google pagerank as it sees it. WSN Links uses this tool to show that bar. For whatever reason huebit.ws doesn't know what the page rank for that URL is and doesn't display an image.
Because the image can't be displayed your browser shows the alt text, which is "Google Page Rank Tool". You can change the text by going into your admin panel and changing the alt="Google Page Rank Tool" inside your "Show Links in Category" template.
The only way to get the bar to show up is to e-mail the people that run www.huebit.ws and ask them.
Paul I found it impossible to PM you... anyways I have a PHP source code (not mine but publically available) that I'm using to get PR. I save PR data in a database and run an updater (kinda like counter regenerator) every month of whenever PR update is goin on. It can be live, but I don't want to query Google hundred thousand times a day.
I can email it to you if you want to. I add a little button to check PR of the pending submissions and one on the edit page.
do you mean Google API key? Google never provided any ability to query PR with third party tools - all the tools available out there are results of reversed engineering and mine is not an exception.

On the validate items page there is a page rank feature. It has stopped working. Apparently the web site it references is dead.

That is what I discovered when I noticed it had stopped working.
If we can find another source maybe we can chmage the url in the template.

checkpagerank.com's is a bit bulky but it's all I can find.
On further study these tools may be against Google's TOS, you're supposed to get your own limited-access account with google to use their data.
I'll remove it for now and keep searching for a more direct way to do it.

In my case, I may just delete it from the template just to clean up the page. I did not actually use it. It was a neat idea though.
