Is there any way to change this to a 404 not found error?

Yes, I have regenerated. I don't think this has any effect though. Even putting in URLs like http://www.domain.com/directory/category/3, http://www.domain.com/directory/category/4, or even http://www.domain.com/directory/category/100 will return a blank template, with no entries and a 200 found header. Which is something that I never realised before, until I tried it.
