There is a check box choice for ...

[Disallow any reuse of the same domain name? yes no ]

Could someone give me an example of they might have found this valuable - or be used best .. I am assuming that "aliasing" would over-ride this? ?

It's bad if you want to allow numerous geocities sites or the like, good if you want to make sure submitters can't keep submitting blah.com/1.html and blah.com/2.html to get numerous similar links in your directory while escaping your duplicate check.
