I tried doing a customization for this, using a custom field that indicated if members could see the item in question or not. That worked pretty decent. The single field + statements in alot of templates caused the item not to be shown anywhere.
The only problem with this solution is that there's no way to do it in toplists or in categories without messing up the list. In toplists, one item less is shown, while in the category view there's an item missing in the row (I use the setting: 3 columns).
Anyway, hopefully this will help if you ever implement it. If not it might help others trying to achieve the same =).
