I was just working on my links site when all of a sudden the formatting of the pages changed. Turned out my default templates folder was emptied of its contents, leaving me looking at another backup set of templates, which I had luckily made. When I checked the default templates folder, the permissions for just that folder were set to rwxrw-rw-.

Did a hacker just delete my template files?

Or is it possible I did it myself?

Now that I restored the default directory files from my harddrive, the default template directory isn't showing up in the Settings/Switches/Default Template Set dropdown menu. How do I fix that?

I spent all weekend tweaking the tempate for my new site. Now I have to start over. sad

It seems an unlikely thing for a hacker to do. They'd insert hidden links in your templates to increase their pagerank, not delete them.

the permissions for just that folder were set to rwxrw-rw-

On most servers, that value renders the directory inacessible. On a few servers that use suexec, however, it's the necessary value. I don't know which type of server you're on, but try setting to 777 and if it's an suexec server it'll give an error on viewing, whereas if it isn't it'll start working.

Are you positive the directory is actually empty, not simply inacessible?

Any readable directory that doesn't contain the word 'hide' in its name shows on the template menu.

Sometimes (like right now) WSN Links can't find my default templates directory and uses the other (wrong) custom template directory instead.

I can't see my default directory on the Settings/General page drop down templates menu. I'm wondering if this is a temporary thing or not.

Now I'm trying to access the default template directory with my GoLive FTP module, and it says it can't find it.

The error message is
"Can not list folder: default
Reason: Can not list FPT folder. (550: Can't change directory to /lnx/templates/default: Permission denied)"

Any ideas about what the problem could be? Is my host/server going flaky on me?

What other template directory? You have two?

Can not list folder: default
Reason: Can not list FPT folder. (550: Can't change directory to /lnx/templates/default: Permission denied)

Normally when the server is having trouble it should be a 404, but I believe when PHP runs as CGI you can get permission denied errors from server issues. Anyhow, tell your host that you periodically get that message.
