I want to create a search functionality similar to yell.com
There fill be two search form fields... Find What, and Find Where.
So for example if the user puts - Accountants - in the first form field, and then - London - in the secon form field, the search page will return listings for Accountants in London.
My Idea is to create a custom link field where listing owners can list thier products and services, and this will be thie field that gives results for the Search what? part of the search box.
Then another link field where they can list the towns, counties and post code areas they cover, and this will give results for the Search where? pert of the form.
However, as well as the new link fields, I would also like the Search What? part of the form to take results from the Category name field.
... and I would also like the Search where part of the form to take results from three cstom fields I have already set up... Town, County and Post Code.
What I am asking is can I set up a form such that it only takes results from several specific link fields, but different link fields for each search form field?
Also what would be the best form HTML? What other setting should I take into account.
Maybe I am thinking of this the wrong way and there is a more simple way to create a search funcionality such as this.
So for example if the user puts - Accountants - in the first form field, and then - London - in the secon form field, the search page will return listings for Accountants in London.
I'd probably do that by having Accountants as a category and London in a field, so that a search could be done for a field value (London) within the accountants category.
What I am asking is can I set up a form such that it only takes results from several specific link fields, but different link fields for each search form field?
Basically you want a simple search with one box, but where you can specify the searchable fields within the search form? I don't see a way to do it with the script as-is, but could add the possibility in an hour of custom work.
Also what would be the best form HTML? What other setting should I take into account.
Here's what I would really like Paul, and I am perfectly willing to pay for custom work...
The first field of the search box needs to search for a "Business Type" such as accountants or plumbers. So i would set up a custom category field called "keywords" so that I could build up a set of keywords for each category. So for Accountants, I would have keywords such as "Accontant" "Accountants" "Accountancy" Book Keeping" "VAT returns" etc... and when any of these were searched it would bring up accountants.
Then, in the second part of the search form, the user specifies a location. I need this to look at several link fields, -- Town, County, Postcode and another field where link submitters can specify other areas they provide services in.
Problem is Paul, with custom work, does this mean that if I upgrade the script, the custom work would get overwritten?
Please let me know how much to send you and what info you need me to send.
In this custom work, can you also provide me with the HTML I need to put on my site for the search form please.

Not sure what you mean by that.

I can make it upgradeable. Send me an FTP and admin panel login.
