I have IM set to resize images and add a watermark. This works fine with images attached to links, but does not work at all with a catfileattach

Is it supposed to? At the moment I am resizing all photos for cats prior to attaching

No, custom fields aren't supposed to resize. Not sure it'd be desirable since people could be using them for different purposes.
