Can't Log Out / Odd Category data |

Hello,
Hmm,
Well this is not the 1st time I've installed the script however I've changed various settings but none of the default folders etc.
Firstly when I try to log out ... the message saying you've logged out appears then the screen changed to still being logged in - This is in both admin and public areas.
I tried to add a single top level category - the following appears but qucikly vanishes from the screen:

The actualy category does appear though. True enough those mentions of not exist are correct.
Some guidance?
