I realize that I've fallen a few versions behind, but did not see any mention of this when scanning the forum.
Setup:
Settings->Search/SEO->Default Meta Tags:
<META name="Description" content="my main (site) description">
<META name="Keywords" content="my,main,keyowords">
Common Tasks->Edit Categories->(first cat)->Header Insert:
<META name="Description" content="my first category description">
<META name="Keywords" content="my,first,category,keywords">
I noticed that google has for My Site: Main the description and keywords that are specified for my first catgory -- meaning the first one listed via Common Tasks->Edit Categories, which also happens to be visually the first listed in the browsable index per my category sorting prefs.
Upon further investigation I discovered that the meta tags are proper, as anticipated, when I am logged in to WSN Links. Not logged in, as a guest (as google see things) my main/default meta tags are those which are specified for my first category.
If I remove the header insert meta tags from the first category then the default meta tags are once again shown for the site: main and also for the first category -- also no other category meta tags I've assigned using the header insert field jump into the site: main html. |
