This has been explained, but I don't think clearly, and seems to be a topic of interest to many people so I thought I would lay it out clearly.
NOTE: I am using the full Version 3.3.2. I don't know if earlier versions will be quite this easy.
Adding custom title tags to your categories and sub-categories may be an excellent way to legitimately improve the listings your software receives in the major search engines, and thus greatly increase visits. Here is an easy way to customize this function.
NOTE: The instant this customization is made none of your categories or sub-categories will have any title tag! You will then need to add them one by one. If this means a lot of work you may wish to take that thought into consideration prior to making the customization.
The Steps:
1) Go into your WSN Links control panel.
2) On the left navigation bar, under the "Customizations" heading, select the "Add Fields" menu item.
3) At the top of the Add Fields page there is a dropdown menu where it reads "Add a" and then you select the type of link field. Within the dropdown menu select "Category Field".
4) In the entry area to the right of that where it reads "named" enter in "categorytitle" (without the double quotes).
5) In the entry area to the right of that where it reads "with mysql field type". The selection should be "Text".
6) The next line down you will see a dropdown selection menu that reads "Type". The selection should be "Input Box".
7) The next line down you will see an input area labeled "Label to use in template (field name by default):". Enter in "Category Title Tags" (without the double quotes).
8) Just below you will see the "Add Field" button. Click it. Nothing else needs to be done on this page.
9) The page will change and you will receive a message saying that you have successfully created a field that will be: {CATCATEGORYTITLE} Make a note of that, or better yet copy it.
10) On the left navigation bar, under the "
Settings" heading, select the "General" menu item.
11) When the General page appears scroll down it until you find the entry area titled "Page Titles Scheme:".
12) Delete everything currently in this entry area and enter in: {CATCATEGORYTITLE} This is the field you were notified of in step 9.
13) Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click the button labeled "Update Settings".
That's it! You’re Done.
Now when you go to any existing category, or go to create a category that does not exist, you will see an entry area at the bottom of the page form that reads "Category Title Tag:". Whatever you enter in there will become the new title tag for that specific category or sub-category only. If nothing is entered that category or sub-category will have a blank title tag, so it is best to enter something.
I hope this helps. I know it is a real step by step for dummies instruction, but that's just about my personal speed Good luck. |
