Quick question: I've noticed that the link tracking option doesn't produce indirect links anymore like it did in the old days, but direct links that are tracked via Javascript (onclick). Are the indirect links available via some other setting, or is that feature gone now? (Indirect links - along the lines of www.mysite.com/linkid=1 - instead of www.remotesite.com - do make quite a difference for the search engines.) Thanks!

If you want to hurt search engine rankings with those seach engines that don't obey 301 redirects, you can type link.php?id={LINKID}. Google will treat it exactly the same as the direct link though. If you want to not pass pagerank, the only way to do that is to use rel="nofollow" like google suggests.

Just got 4.1.79 up and running ...

and just realized that indirect links are no longer there .... [ yes we've been away for awhile]

I read that indirect links are part of ? 5.++ versions ?hope so ...

Don't see it available in 4.1.79 [ if I am missing it please do tell ! ]

My concern and use of indirect linking - is so that others don't have an easy time mooching off of the intellectual property - and the hard work - by easily scrapping off the urls...

Not worried about Pagerank for this

--- so looking for away to get the indirect links working ...
Have read the above posting regarding about using - link.php?id={LINKID}
Where would that be that used ? inserted ?

We don't understand how to use this ...

Thanks Paul and "others" if you have found a way -???

Use link.php?id={LINKID} everywhere you currently use {TRACKLINKURL} to link stuff -- normally the front page links toplist (main index template), the display links in category template, the search links and search all templates and a few other places.

People can of course still scrape your URLs by having their software follow the redirects.

I read that indirect links are part of ? 5.++ versions ?hope so ...

You're the first, and probably last person I've heard of who wants to make their site less transparent to search engines for no purpose to users, so internal URLs for external links will not be a switch/setting -- just something you can do with your templates if you really want to obfuscate.

Indirect linking is a switch in recent versions, but that means linking to the details page first and only linking to the external site from the details page. It has nothing to do with the URL used for the external site, which is still the actual external site URL.
