Underscores aren't a handled character for separating the page portion, so the underscore wouldn't be stripped from the end... but it's supposed to result in myurldir/mylinktitle_3_thread_.html URLs instead. Fixing that to hold true now.

In the Settings>SEO admin back end:
Format for thread rewriting: {LINKREWRITEPATH}/{LINKTITLE}_{LINKID}_thread _{PAGE}.html
But on the details page the html is exported as myurldir/mylinktitle_3_thread_{page}.html
which is resulting in a broken link because of "thread" and "{page}"
I'm probing a bit to find the issue, but I haven't stumbled upon it yet.
BTW I have regenerated everything to make sure that wasn't an issue based on previous posts about SEO issues.

I viewed a 4.X version that I haven't upgraded yet to 5.0.37 and it states:
{LINKREWRITEPATH}/{LINKTITLE}-{LIN KID}-thread-{PAGE}.html
becomes:
myurldir/mylinkt itle-3-thread.html
which is fully functional now.
I rewrote this to see if it made a difference and now it's working FYI
