Noticed today that if I have a " immediately followed by a ) it removes the closing parens and substitutes it with a wink smilie even though the setting is for a ; followed by a ).
That's odd. Seems I can't get it to work on the forum anymore either. Obviously it did when I first posted. Not sure if you're seeing it or not, but I attached a screenshot of this forum. When I click the "advanced" button under "quick reply" you can see that my ") in post #1 turns into a smilie and I also attached a screenshot of my site where the link description changes as well.

??
When submitting I type in ") in the description of a link, then when you view display links it shows as a wink smiley. I have it in WYSIWYG. The smiley does NOT show when submitting or editing. I have now placed a space between " and ) and it is fine.
I can't show you because I haven't uploaded the site yet and it is on my local computer - of course you are always welcome to fly over for a visit
Babrees, I think he means here on the forums it's in the post history, but on our sites it's in the link description after submitting. Although, I haven't tried it in any other fields now that I think about it.
What I find odd is every instance that Babrees and I have typed has turned into a smilie, but the only one Paul typed did not. So what's your secret Paul? Inquiring minds want to know!
On further consideration, there must've been a good reason why I was encoding " so I'd better not break things by undoing it. Would requiring a space around smilies make sense?
I guess that would work. I can add a note under the smilies box letting people know that they need to leave a space for them to work. I don't see that as a problem.
Would it be possible to have that space as part of the smilie when they click on it? So when they click on it actually inserts [space][space].

That would be ok for new submissions. I am just upgrading my biggest site, not sure how many have it in their description but hopefully will get through checking it all one day <G>
