since 4.1.69 I get a lot of Server 500 Errors in den Frontend, but I don't see this 500'er not in the Server Logs... misterious. I have disabled a lot of functions, but it does not help.
I have tried some another things... but without positiv result:
I have moved the db to another db server... same problems I have stripped down wrapper.tpl an displaylinks.tpl... same problems
The problem seems to be a runtime over 10 seconds. But what I see, is some sessions management, although I have disabled it (Online user listings and Online total for each category are not set). Some servers may give a 500 for every error instead of displaying the actual error message. They write the real error to a log file somewhere, which presumably says that the php.ini time limit has been exceeded.
The debug output you have me is of a 3 second runtime -- which suggests an overloaded server or lots of toplists, but it's not 10 seconds.
The online user list adds a small fraction of a second under normal circumstances. Maybe if you have hundreds of people online at once it could take more time, but it shouldn't be significant.
There is no error written to the log.. also the error 500 isn't written.
I can reproduce the situation... I open 6 tabs in ie7 and every tab is displaying one categorry... if I refresh those, one of them gets error 500 and this after 10 seconds.

Yes, but this may be the same like 6 different guest. googlebot is getting the same problems and so the site is banned from the serps... thats the major problem... banned from serps means no guest...
I'm searching and testing a lot of things. In the moment it seems, if I make an update (delete an entry/link) the next call (via redirect automaticly or via refresh in the browser) results error 500. My environment:
PHP 4 will be slower and use more memory. MySQL 4.1 or 5.x are recommended. I believe 4.0 lacked query caching and would be slower. These have no real relation here though, because there's nothing I can do to create a 500 error after updating an item.
What kind of traffic are you talking about here? 6 guests in the same second being a regular occourence would suggest a staggeringly popular website.
Since you're talking about a redirect, do you have redirect bypassing on or off?
I have 'Bypass redirect pages where possible? ' switched to off.
My hoster could not give me an error log of the webserver, but he gave me an php code snippet to include, but where could I do this to catch all erros? I think this will help us to find the error reason.
I came from about 100 unique vistors a day. I think the error 500 came after some update to 4.1.70. Is it possible to downgrade for example to 4.1.60? I will give this a try.
I have tested with 4.1.63... same results error 500.
What I do not understand, after some error 500 (>10 seconds runtime) the very next refresh works fine, and between 1 and 3 seconds the fully site is displayed.

since 4.1.69 I get a lot of Server 500 Errors in den Frontend, but I don't see this 500'er not in the Server Logs... misterious. I have disabled a lot of functions, but it does not help.

I think, this means 'if there is anywhere the phrase ONLINE}, maxonline is executetd regardless of the switches'

The problem seems to be a runtime over 10 seconds.
Some servers may give a 500 for every error instead of displaying the actual error message. They write the real error to a log file somewhere, which presumably says that the php.ini time limit has been exceeded.
The debug output you have me is of a 3 second runtime -- which suggests an overloaded server or lots of toplists, but it's not 10 seconds.
The online user list adds a small fraction of a second under normal circumstances. Maybe if you have hundreds of people online at once it could take more time, but it shouldn't be significant.

There is no error written to the log.. also the error 500 isn't written.
I can reproduce the situation... I open 6 tabs in ie7 and every tab is displaying one categorry... if I refresh those, one of them gets error 500 and this after 10 seconds.

Today I have cleaned up all alias categories, so there is no category an alias of another, but the problem still occurs. Today I see it definitive running in the 10 seconds problem.
Any tips for debugging?

You're refeshing all 6 at the same moment? I'd expect that could bring a server to a halt.

Yes, but this may be the same like 6 different guest. googlebot is getting the same problems and so the site is banned from the serps... thats the major problem... banned from serps means no guest...

I'm searching and testing a lot of things. In the moment it seems, if I make an update (delete an entry/link) the next call (via redirect automaticly or via refresh in the browser) results error 500. My environment:

PHP 4 will be slower and use more memory. MySQL 4.1 or 5.x are recommended. I believe 4.0 lacked query caching and would be slower. These have no real relation here though, because there's nothing I can do to create a 500 error after updating an item.
What kind of traffic are you talking about here? 6 guests in the same second being a regular occourence would suggest a staggeringly popular website.
Since you're talking about a redirect, do you have redirect bypassing on or off?

Hi Paul,
I have 'Bypass redirect pages where possible? ' switched to off.
My hoster could not give me an error log of the webserver, but he gave me an php code snippet to include, but where could I do this to catch all erros? I think this will help us to find the error reason.
I came from about 100 unique vistors a day. I think the error 500 came after some update to 4.1.70. Is it possible to downgrade for example to 4.1.60? I will give this a try.

I have tested with 4.1.63... same results error 500.
What I do not understand, after some error 500 (>10 seconds runtime) the very next refresh works fine, and between 1 and 3 seconds the fully site is displayed.

You haven't told me what you want to insert. Anyhow, error reporting is on unless you've set debug mode to turn it off.
Are you using the cache system (if so, for what groups/loads)?
