I believe it would be very useful to have a Promote Usergroup feature.
Let's think on a classifieds site were members buy different types of memberships that enables them to maintain published a specific number of ads for a stablished period of time.
At the moment to achieve this we can use the Suspend System but with the following difficulties, so this is why I do suggest to have a Promote specific feature:
A member that is already promoted to a higher usergroup that wants to be prototed to a more higher usergroup has to be first restored to the original usergroup before it's promoted to the more higher usergoup. If we promote this member without first restoring, the original usergroup is understood to be the previously promoted but not the real original usergroup. So we need two steps to manually upgrade. The most difficult issue is that with two steps we can not implement the paypal automatic usergroup upgrade after payment.
I believe a solution when promoting would be to specify the original usergroup, but I don't know the way to specify it without having a specific variable for it.

Just to confirm I'm interested on this feature to be done.
I will submit it via the Custom PHP Coding form soon.
