A few things I am in need of some guidance with. I have been setting up http://www.globalmerchant.org with the WSN link program for the past few weeks. Thus far I have over a thousand categories with another 500-700 to go. Then I have to populate those categories.
1. When bulk adding categories sometimes it creates duplicates and all without me pushing submit twice. It then, depending upon how many categories there are takes me a VERY long time to delete the duplicates. Sometimes 20-30 minutes, especially when counties or cities are duplicated or any sub-directory additions in bulk. Does anyone know of a time saving solution for this?
2. In primary directories, sometimes it makes sense after they evolve to create sub categories. At which time the links within the parent category need to be moved to sub-categories within the parent category. I see no way of conveniently moving these links, other then creating a new link or moving them into another parent category with a unique ID. What is the time efficient solution for this?
3. With regards to sponsorship, I would like to try ULSsearch that is integrated into WSN links. The thing is however, I am not yet able to make them display. One possible error I see is:
*Link type which will be used to display the PPC results: (must be unique -- cannot use link type that has other links in it)
The link type has no drop down options for the link types and is blank.
1. Perhaps you'd find it quicker to delete through phpmyadmin, and then regernate later. I guess it's a matter of trying to recalculate various totals and the category selector.
2. I'm not sure what you mean there, but have you used the 'bulk edit/move links' option on the category's editorial controls menu? Alternately, if you mean to say you want to change every link with catid #675 to catid #978, you could do that from the 'advanced' page of the admin panel in the 'perform mass alterations' section... or you could just do a query through phpmyadmin if you know any SQL.
3. You haven't created any new link types, and you can't use a link type that's being used for real in-site links. Admin Panel -> Settings -> Links -> Link Types.
For the PPC I named a new group PROMO. Here is my show link template, I read about adding it but I'm just not good at it. Can you add the PCC at the top of the search results in the template?
<IF {CATNUMBERRELATED} is greater than 0> {CATNUMBERRELATED} related categories: </IF> <!-- BEGIN RELATED --> <a href="index.php?action=displaycat&catid={CATID}" class="categoryname">{CATNAME}</a> ({CATNUMLINKS}) {CATHASNEW} {CATADMIN} <br> <!-- END RELATED -->

If you're looking for search results, click 'search links' in the template list. Note that link types there use <!-- BEGIN TYPE --> as mentioned in the manual and must go within the <!-- BEGIN SEARCH links RESULTS --> area.

I just don't get that stuff, however I'm more inclined to not even bother putting in the PPC links now. It should be simple if it is an intergrated PPC feature in my opinion. Such as click then displaying the eneabled function.
Today a link member submitted a link under electronics that should have been automotive. So I edited the submission prior to approval and changed the category ID. Yet there was no way of submitting it into the automotive sub category from that edification into the automotive - boating sub category. Like the other links listed there they need to be placed in a sub - category.
It seems as if when clicking on edit of any of the subcategories of the subcategory automotive of online shopping, it shares the same automotive category ID of the primary subcategory automotive.
How do I move the links listed in www.globalmerchant.org/onth...Online_Shopping/Automotive to the appropriate sub-categories listed in that automotive directory. Clicking on each subcategory of the automotive directory it displays the same category ID.
I have allot of cleanup work to do from adding new subcategories, such as placing links from the primary category into new subcategories for furthered categoricalism that are newly added.
I have no idea what you mean by "it displays the same category ID." Your categories all look unique from here, but where is the referenced "primary subcategory automotive"? You only have one link but you're apparently talking about two pages.
For instance an automotive category will have a category ID but the automotive category sub categories don't show a unique one when clicking on edit. I cannot move displaced links into the proper sub cats of automotive for instance.
It would be really neat if when editing a link as an admin or mod I could click from a menu displaying all categories to move the link to. With this system one has to find a category ID number, perhaps a drop down box first displaying the immediate category with sub cats within it if they are added later for relevancy reasons then the option after those selections to move into totally different cats.

I am not sure that I understand you correctly so forgive me if I am telling you something you already know and have tried...
In your admin panel under Settings > Switches you will see "Category selector on 'Suggest Link' page" select yes for this and you will have a drop down box on your edit page. To move a link from one category to another, simply select the correct category from the drop down list.
The bulk edit links page has a selector of categories to move the selections to, of course. And of course, a category that doesn't have a unique id is a logical impossibility since mysql doesn't allow it, so you're not making any sense.
I do not see why it does not make sense. It was said clearly several times. I will try what the other person said, as currently it's a pain in the arse.
See this page, there are links being submitted to the automotive directory listed below the categories and now I have to move them to the automotive sub-categories. The sub categories do not have ID numbers that I can see when clicking on edit within automotive.
?I?t just displays the parent ID of automotive in each sub-category of automotive when clicking on edit on each sub-category. Which is 187, but no unique ID number to bulk "move" links into each sub-category of automotive.
In order to place these misplaced links after adding sub-categories within a sub-category of a parent category all I see I can do is delete them and submit them again. This is truelly a non-optimal compromise to a proporterd limitation of mysql.
As each sub-category of another subcategory I think it's level 3 does not inherent a category ID number it has no option to move links there. There is no option when editing a link to select the sub-categories of the parent sub-category which is level 2 in this case.
I need to find a solution as I have spent several days trying to find one here. If I have to delete these links and re-create them in order to place them correctly in the automotive sub-categories I think that is a logistical fualt in programming.
Something so simple being impossible is not how business gets done.
I have many categories looking like this now and it looks like crap.

If you really have to do it that way then perhaps your wsnlinks did not install correctly or something.
If I were having your probs I would first ensure that I was using the latest version (3.4.3), if not then upgrade. I would then regenerate EVERYTHING. If that doesn't help I would check to see if the database needs repairing.
It sounds a bit peculiar to me that so many links are not being put into the correct category in the first place, necessitating moving.
AFAIK when you make a category it is given a unique id - that is what the database uses so if you have a category is MUST have a unique id.
Did you check to ensure that you have "Category selector on 'Suggest Link' page" switched on as I suggested?
I don't know if a category can be corrupted but don't see why not. In which case I would delete one of the sub-cats that seem to be causing a problem resubmit it and see if it works to your satisfaction then.
I do not see that a category below a level 3 (or is it 4) has a unique ID, when clicking on edit on these level three categories (IE: Online Shopping/Automotive/Accessories) they share the category ID of the "automotive". There is no displayed unique ID for Automotive/accessories just for automotive.
Yes I updated the switches and re-generated everything. The thing is if I have to delete the links and then re-create them each member after deleting the links will get an e-mail stating I did so.
I just wish there was a really easy and efficient way to move links from online shopping / automotive to online shopping / automotive / (Category Name Here*).
I have WSN Links 3.3.21.
