My host is upgrading MYSQL soon and has sent me the following...
Please be aware that the upgrade to MySQL 4.1.15 from 4.0.26 is a major update. Some syntax changes have been made & the password hashing in MySQL 4.1.x is different from the previous MySQL 4.0.x versions. We will be able to maintain the old hashing system for the time being. However, you should check to ensure that all of your scripts/web applications are MySQL 4.1 compatible.
Do you know anything about the new version and if there is a chance there may be a problem with wsn scripts?
I've been on MySQL 4.1.x for a long time, and recently moved to MySQL 5, so I know it's no problem. PHP versions lately have been the problem, PHP 5.0.5 broke things and I've been told 5.1.1 has broken even more though I can't test it yet.
I'm not sure what it means by "the password hashing" though, perhaps something I haven't used.
