Hi - I downloaded tulip so that I may import some DMOZ cats - Thing is, I can't find the .jar file to run the thing - I've searched the forums for this - but no joy - if any one can point me in the right direction - it would be most appreciated.

many thanks and best regards,

PP

You need to have the Java Runtime Environment installed, as the instructions say. Then you double click the file, or may need to associate it first, and the method for associating file types varies by operating system.

Hi Paul - thanks for that - still having probs though :/

I have the JRE installed - and file types are ok. I still cannot see a .JAR file - but there is a tulip.jpnl file, which when click attempts to start the program - but I get the error below. I'm tearing my hair out now smiling face

If you can spare a min to offer any suggestions, I would be grateful.

many thanks - paul.

have you downloaded the file again? You should be able to get it from the site no problems... the problem I had was getting it to work - it didn't

Hi capitaine smiling face

I've d/led several versions - not one of the zip files contain a file called tulip.jar - in fact there are no .jar files at all in the bundle :/

Thanks.

...I'm running xp pro on the laptop too - I have no idea why it works on the on one and not the other. I have managed to import one cat and links into my DB - but it isn't a pretty site!

On the output file there are the edit links for the dmoz editors - and these are being inserted into the DB fields - although there is an option to leave these out - it don't work. I'm wondering if it is possible to just import the URL and descriptions of the sites from dmoz! Anyone? :-)

You're supposed to be downloading the .jar file directly. It sounds like you're unpackaging something or the like. You aren't supposed to download a zip file, you're supposed to use the direct link I gave in the instructions to the jar file. If you're uncompressing something then you're doing something wrong.

Since you downloaded something other than the specified version, you may have issues as it could create reports in the wrong format. I can only support the file I gave the direct link to in the instructions.

As for what should be contained in the reports, see the screenshot for the settings to select.

I managed to sort that issue Paul. Got Tulip working and imported the links to a category I created myself - thing is, now the category times out (with around 20 links listed in it). I added 20 sites manualy to another category - and now that one times out too.

You probably didn't follow the instructions which say to regenerate before trying to use the site. When you haven't regenerated things will run really slow.
