How to edit category variables???? I searched the forums, read the manual, but nothing... the manual lists all the variables but doesn't actually say how to edit them... grrrr! I need to edit {CATADMIN}
Click 'templates' in your admin panel. There you have a list of templates. Category variables can be used in some of them, where categories make logical sense.
As far as ADMIN} goes, 'edit' is still a language item as always. Just edited it yesterday for W3C compliance.
There's nothing more I can do than observe that it is there. If it weren't you wouldn't be able to see the 'edit' button.
As for the general case, it is generally nonsenical to edit the html for a category variable. {CATNAME} for example does not have html -- edit the category name to change it.
Paul, i'm talking about {CATADMIN}. It outputs this HTML: <a h ref="edit.php?action=category&field=id&condition=equals&fieldvalue=13"><i mg src="templates/multilingual/images/edit.gif" border="0"></a>
where is that coming from?
And in Languages, there isn't an 'edit' option I can see, can you tell me where...? If I filter by {CATADMIN} it doesn't bring it up....
Why is the variable called {CATADMIN} in the templates, and edit: {LANG_EDIT} in Languages?
What exactly would you suggest? Language variables are not template variables obviously. And the 'edit' language item also is used by {LINKADMIN}, {COMMENTADMIN}, {MEMBERADMIN}, etc.
How is anyone supposed to find that

I mean: how do I edit the HTML that, for example, {CATADMIN} represents?! (need to change the default image and put in a text link)
If I go into Languages, there is no option to 'edit' this item.... I tried searching for it too.

It is already explained in the other thread. It is not an 'option' it is a name, as the other thread states.

Found it. But that was the ultimate in confusion. Why is the variable called {CATADMIN} in the templates, and edit: {LANG_EDIT} in Languages?
