I manually imported a little over 3000 categories, they appear in the directory just fine, but when I try to edit them or regenerate counters the requests just time out. Also, the imported categories don't show short list of subcategories under them on the home page even though they have the amount set in the 'numsub' column.
I tried entering categories and subs manually and everything appears just fine - than I truncated the table and bulk inserted the whole data into the table - those categories and subs that were inserted manually before are appearing correctly with subcats on the homepage under them, but others are not.. and I can not edit anything as descibed above. All the fields were filled out in the Excel the same way as in the DB. Also, when I'm importing subcats data into categories one by one (from the same source) - everything is fine - although I create a few subs manually and then just overwrite them from the source file.
Any ideas on what it can be? Feels like it has to be optimized somehow or I'm jsut missing something?
As covered in the manual, you have to regenerate counters when importing direct sql. Have you tried regenerating a smaller number at a time? Category regenerations may need to be just a couple at a time with lots of links involved.

I actually managed to regenerate counters for all 3000+ categories, but still having the same problem after all.
