Need advice My website was suspended today due to high server and my hosting company wont let me get in to fix it.
I used mod rewrite for my links and category. I have no sub categories. $ toplist on main page. I can believe that this could have caused it.

If its host can someone recommend a good hosting company that allows mod rewrite This really sucks. I spent so much time tweaking my site, adding the links, and now its gone.
They suggest lunar pages here, but powweb is another discount host that offers a ton of bandwidth for 7.77/month - the downside is that support through powweb is only so so but they have a huge forum community and every problem I've ever had has been solved there.
The host I use allows mod rewrite and typically upgrades the disk space and bandwith every 60 days or so at no additional cost, so theoretically, as your site grows, so will your host without it costing more.
I checked with my host, and they have a special right now that expires today (2/28/05) where they will triple the bandwith and disk space for the life of the plan. This means that for $7.95/mo you would get 120BG of Monthly bandwith and 2400MB of disk space. (pretty cool...).
I have been with this company for over 4 years, and their support is unbelievable. I have NEVER had a problem with them, and they are constantly adding new features and space at no additional charge. They also give you one free domain name registration with your hosting account that is renewed for free each year for as long as you are a customer.

I suggest you should really check your search engine spider activity and create a robots.txt to prevent spiders from acting like DOS attacks (set a crawl-delay of 40 seconds and it ought to be safe). Yahoo's slurp in particular tends to throw hundreds of copies of itself at a large site at once if you let it. MSNbot tends to spider daily for sites high in its listings and can often overlap with slurp to make problems worse. Unless you actually have 100 real people online at once, odds are that your load is due to spiders.
As for hosts, I can speak positivly from experience about http://www.spenix.com (which hosts this site) and http://www.myqth.com (both allow mod_rewrite, and I've been using both for several years).
A word of advice: since you were suspended for high load, not high bandwidth, I'd suggest staying away from hosts that offer too absurd an amount of bandwidth for the price. In general they tend to prevent themselves from going broke by making sure that their server load limitations prevent anyone from actually being able to use all that bandwidth on anything but a plain HTML site.

It's not exactly a convincing testamonial when you give a glowing review and then supply an affiliate link to a "rewards" program, without ever even indicating that it is such (jamestrotta clearly labeled his an affiliate link, so I'll leave it be), as though you apparently want to trick people into thinking you have no motive for the review.

My "glowing review" is the same review I've been giving for 4+ years even prior to them offering an referral reward for sending new customers. I have also written glowing reviews about your software even without receiving anything for it and have probably told about five to six customers of yours about your various software. I haven't earned a dime for referring paid customers to you, but I've done so because I was impressed with the software.
If I wanted to trick someone, I would have cloaked the URL....I left it as is so that people could see that it is, in fact, a referral URL and they could judge for themselves. If there had been a specific request to indicate referral links as such I would have, and if there is a posted request somewhere on this board to do so, I missed it and it is my fault. But characterizing a loyal, paid customer as a crook is beyond logical to me.
All of my posts have been on-topic, service-related, and polite. Your reply to my post is harsh and uncalled for.
I didn't call you a "crook" anywhere, obviously. Nonetheless, I consider it common sense that affiliate links get deleted since I have never seen a forum on the entire internet where that wasn't the case -- though on most of them they just delete all affiliate links as spam regardless of being well-marked as such, and I've done that before, but decided to leave the marked one this time (perhaps just because of the contrast between it and the unmarked one).
Your posts have indeed been on-topic, service-related and polite. I appreciate that. You have proven to be an easy person to work with, you've never piled stress on me or been demanding, and I'm happy to continue responding to your future posts. It would be great if all customers were like you. My appreciating that, however, doesn't mean that I'll make any exceptions for you when it comes to enforcing policies which are in the best interests of all readers -- not just the thread starter, but anyone else who comes by in the coming years from a search engine to read the thread and could very easily click your link before they realize it's an affiliate link. These forums are not a place for anyone to suppliment their income, unless there's an explicit agreement between the owner of the forum (me) and the person advertising on it.
On reflection I'd have to say it was a mistake for me to comment on the review, I should've just removed the URL or replaced it with a direct link, but I felt that people should be aware that an affiliate link had been attached there and read the review knowing that. Re-edited now.

I realize you could easily have made it more hidden. The fact that some people would likely notice that it was an affiliate link does not, however, justify it. It's quite easy still to click on such links without noticing.

You can check out the affiliate program in the resources section of www.wsnlinks.com if you like ($7 per sale), though a lot of people don't like clixgalore. (But don't post my affiliate link on other people's forums. )
Fair enough Paul...I appreciate you taking the time to respond, and as it is your board, you make the rules. I wasn't aware that I was breaking a rule, as some boards let you post a link in the sig file and I figured it was like that.
I don't expect you to make exceptions to your rules just because I am a good customer. Rules are rules and I respect that, my only problem was the response. But I consider it water under the bridge, and I'll continue to visit and work with yor software (happily, by the way....WSN links has been great!)
I will continue to refer customers to you, referral commission or not, because I think you have some awesome software here and I enjoy seeing where you will take it next.

They should be fine, they've been around a long time. I considered going to HostRocket a couple times years ago but found the prices too steep for my needs.

Do you have a lot of top lists running? I turned on show queries and time to see how many queries and how it takes to run each so I can see how much activity is going on.
I think a default install has 24 queries on the main.tpl template. When I had all my top lists running I was around 180 and when you have 10 people hitting your main page all at once imagine your mysql queries driving the server up the wall.

:-Very bad loading time. Up for few weeks only. I dunno why. My main page is in html format which is quite ok but not when into my wsn directory. When accessing all index.php files, it was like 5 secs or more to load a page. This is even worse in admin panel. Look at the slow queries, it is like 1294. So big difference compared to others. Is this because of my webhost?

Added: Paul how do you check your page queries time with debug mode? Is it complicated to do so?
One more thing is can anyone recommend me any adult entertainment related webhosting sites which allows adult content? The one i am using now is Globat and it sucks big time. Need advice
My website was suspended today due to high server and my hosting company wont let me get in to fix it.
I used mod rewrite for my links and category. I have no sub categories. $ toplist on main page. I can believe that this could have caused it.
1)I had 1011 links with gif images
2)Recently submitted to search engines and directory
Do you guys think wsnlinks script caused the problem? spiders? or I need a new host?
I was suspended by hostgator.com
If its host can someone recommend a good hosting company that allows mod rewrite
This really sucks. I spent so much time tweaking my site, adding the links, and now its gone.
Any advice is appreciated,

They suggest lunar pages here, but powweb is another discount host that offers a ton of bandwidth for 7.77/month - the downside is that support through powweb is only so so but they have a huge forum community and every problem I've ever had has been solved there.

The host I use allows mod rewrite and typically upgrades the disk space and bandwith every 60 days or so at no additional cost, so theoretically, as your site grows, so will your host without it costing more.
I checked with my host, and they have a special right now that expires today (2/28/05) where they will triple the bandwith and disk space for the life of the plan. This means that for $7.95/mo you would get 120BG of Monthly bandwith and 2400MB of disk space. (pretty cool...).
I have been with this company for over 4 years, and their support is unbelievable. I have NEVER had a problem with them, and they are constantly adding new features and space at no additional charge. They also give you one free domain name registration with your hosting account that is renewed for free each year for as long as you are a customer.

I suggest you should really check your search engine spider activity and create a robots.txt to prevent spiders from acting like DOS attacks (set a crawl-delay of 40 seconds and it ought to be safe). Yahoo's slurp in particular tends to throw hundreds of copies of itself at a large site at once if you let it. MSNbot tends to spider daily for sites high in its listings and can often overlap with slurp to make problems worse. Unless you actually have 100 real people online at once, odds are that your load is due to spiders.
As for hosts, I can speak positivly from experience about http://www.spenix.com (which hosts this site) and http://www.myqth.com (both allow mod_rewrite, and I've been using both for several years).
A word of advice: since you were suspended for high load, not high bandwidth, I'd suggest staying away from hosts that offer too absurd an amount of bandwidth for the price. In general they tend to prevent themselves from going broke by making sure that their server load limitations prevent anyone from actually being able to use all that bandwidth on anything but a plain HTML site.

It's not exactly a convincing testamonial when you give a glowing review and then supply an affiliate link to a "rewards" program, without ever even indicating that it is such (jamestrotta clearly labeled his an affiliate link, so I'll leave it be), as though you apparently want to trick people into thinking you have no motive for the review.

My "glowing review" is the same review I've been giving for 4+ years even prior to them offering an referral reward for sending new customers. I have also written glowing reviews about your software even without receiving anything for it and have probably told about five to six customers of yours about your various software. I haven't earned a dime for referring paid customers to you, but I've done so because I was impressed with the software.
If I wanted to trick someone, I would have cloaked the URL....I left it as is so that people could see that it is, in fact, a referral URL and they could judge for themselves. If there had been a specific request to indicate referral links as such I would have, and if there is a posted request somewhere on this board to do so, I missed it and it is my fault. But characterizing a loyal, paid customer as a crook is beyond logical to me.
All of my posts have been on-topic, service-related, and polite. Your reply to my post is harsh and uncalled for.

I didn't call you a "crook" anywhere, obviously. Nonetheless, I consider it common sense that affiliate links get deleted since I have never seen a forum on the entire internet where that wasn't the case -- though on most of them they just delete all affiliate links as spam regardless of being well-marked as such, and I've done that before, but decided to leave the marked one this time (perhaps just because of the contrast between it and the unmarked one).
Your posts have indeed been on-topic, service-related and polite. I appreciate that. You have proven to be an easy person to work with, you've never piled stress on me or been demanding, and I'm happy to continue responding to your future posts. It would be great if all customers were like you. My appreciating that, however, doesn't mean that I'll make any exceptions for you when it comes to enforcing policies which are in the best interests of all readers -- not just the thread starter, but anyone else who comes by in the coming years from a search engine to read the thread and could very easily click your link before they realize it's an affiliate link. These forums are not a place for anyone to suppliment their income, unless there's an explicit agreement between the owner of the forum (me) and the person advertising on it.
On reflection I'd have to say it was a mistake for me to comment on the review, I should've just removed the URL or replaced it with a direct link, but I felt that people should be aware that an affiliate link had been attached there and read the review knowing that. Re-edited now.

I realize you could easily have made it more hidden. The fact that some people would likely notice that it was an affiliate link does not, however, justify it. It's quite easy still to click on such links without noticing.

You can check out the affiliate program in the resources section of www.wsnlinks.com if you like ($7 per sale), though a lot of people don't like clixgalore. (But don't post my affiliate link on other people's forums.

Fair enough Paul...I appreciate you taking the time to respond, and as it is your board, you make the rules. I wasn't aware that I was breaking a rule, as some boards let you post a link in the sig file and I figured it was like that.
I don't expect you to make exceptions to your rules just because I am a good customer. Rules are rules and I respect that, my only problem was the response. But I consider it water under the bridge, and I'll continue to visit and work with yor software (happily, by the way....WSN links has been great!)
I will continue to refer customers to you, referral commission or not, because I think you have some awesome software here and I enjoy seeing where you will take it next.

Thanks for responding guys. I wish I was patient enough to wait for your posts. I ended up getting in to hostrocket.com last night. So far so good. If anything goes wrong I will definitely consider the host that was mentioned above. Thanks for all your advice.

They should be fine, they've been around a long time. I considered going to HostRocket a couple times years ago but found the prices too steep for my needs.

I just noticed this, I am thinking this is why I got ban from my previous host. Does anyone know what the above queries mean, if it looks bad, and how I can optimize them.

Do you have a lot of top lists running? I turned on show queries and time to see how many queries and how it takes to run each so I can see how much activity is going on.
I think a default install has 24 queries on the main.tpl template. When I had all my top lists running I was around 180 and when you have 10 people hitting your main page all at once imagine your mysql queries driving the server up the wall.

Those mysql stats looks just fine. The queries per second is quite fast actually.
I don't know what all the numbers really mean, but I know that those numbers are good looking especially since you have 0 slow queries.
Your page load time is more important. Check with debug mode. Are your pages taking several seconds to generate? How many queries per page?

I have 3 websites currently using WSNlinks.
First :-

:- this is my main website and be the longest using wsnlinks. Page loads fast.

:-Very bad loading time. Up for few weeks only. I dunno why. My main page is in html format which is quite ok but not when into my wsn directory. When accessing all index.php files, it was like 5 secs or more to load a page. This is even worse in admin panel. Look at the slow queries, it is like 1294. So big difference compared to others. Is this because of my webhost?
Any comments or questions on this? BTW, 3 different websites on 3 different webhosts.
Added: Paul how do you check your page queries time with debug mode? Is it complicated to do so?

One more thing is can anyone recommend me any adult entertainment related webhosting sites which allows adult content? The one i am using now is Globat and it sucks big time. I was thinking of switching host. Can anyone recommend me something real good? I checked on those webhosting review and it was full of affiliate links with the most commision on the top.
