I'm using version 3.13. I added a link under a main and a secondary category. Then I try to re-categorize the the link a few times which I don't remember the exact steps. I also clicked on "copy link" but didn't sumbit it. It show 3 links in the Directory Stats when there's only 2 links when I search it in the admin panel. I checked the database table and there's only 2 record. The id of the links in the table are 1 and 3. 2 is missing. Then I empty the link database table and the Directory Stats still showing 3 links. I guess maybe you are using the table id as link counts?
Once I click "edit" the link, the counter will increase. I have to regenerate the category counter and total links whenever I click "edit", whether I submit my changes or not.

It sounds like you're editing through phpmyadmin or something. If you make any changes outside the script you have to regenerate.

Editing doesn't change the number of links regardless of submitting not in 3.13, on any install I have nor any of anyone else's that I've seen.

Hmmm. Maybe he moved the link to another category using edit? Wouldn't that cause category totals to be changed?

Well, you certainly have to submit the changes for that to take effect.
